Welcome Message from Congress President

Dear Friends and Colleagues

These are challenging times that we live in.

In 2019, when preparation for a physical ACOMS conference in Singapore was in full swing, we would never have envisioned the devastating consequences of this pandemic. In light of the ongoing COVID19 situation, the 14th ACOMS has been changed to a virtual conference and will be scheduled to take place on the same date- 4-6 June 2021. This was a very difficult but necessary decision, made to keep our delegates, speakers and trade partners safe. For many of you who had plans to visit Singapore, please accept my sincere apologies. I hope that once travel restrictions have been lifted, you can once again visit our lovely city.

The Local Organizing Committee strongly believes that COVID19 should not stop oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Asia and around the world from sharing knowledge, learning new techniques and technologies. Neither should it stop us from reconnecting with each other. With this in mind, they have worked tireless to find a new virtual platform and lined up an exciting list of speakers and topics for you. We are proud that the 14th ACOMS will also be the 1st Virtual ACOMS of our history and this time you can join in as a participant from the safety and comforts of your own home.

As we welcome good news of vaccines amongst sobering news of rising cases of coronavirus, let us turn this obstacle into a window of opportunity for learning and sharing.

Do join us in the virtual 14th ACOMS! I look forward to meeting you online.

With my best wishes

Dr Tian Ee Seah

Welcome Message from Chairman, Organising Committee 14th ACOMS

Dear friends, colleagues and fellow delegates

I can only now wish you a warm virtual welcome. I would have wished to welcome each of you to attend the physical congress as originally planned. Our committee had initially lined up an enlightening series of lectures located in the iconic Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. This past year has been extremely horrible for everyone.

We can only look back wishfully at 2019 BC (before COVID) and wish for the days of open travel and the many conferences over the years, the fellowship and camaraderie. This too shall pass and we shall meet again physically in the near future.

Nonetheless, hard decisions had to be made. We had to make the painful decision to at first postpone the 14thACOMS to June 2021 and them to make the conference fully virtual. We shelved our plans to stay at the Marin Bay Sands Convention Centre and for our Gala Dinner at SEA Aquarium in Resorts World at Sentosa. We scrambled to repurpose our conference format to go fully virtual, engaged with our exhibitors and I believe we can run a successful virtual conference.

A debt of gratitude goes out to all the committee members and the people behind the scenes, all of them volunteers. There have been way too many meetings, lasting long into the wee hours of the night, the inevitable friction among strong headed surgeons, adapting to the many changes as it came. Never in the history of conference organisation has anyone had to face the challenges that came. You all rose to the occasion.

Once again I thank you, the participant, for helping us make this virtual 14thACOMS a success. We have many well-known speakers lined up, an exhilarating virtual exhibition and exciting prizes for the scientific competition.

With best wishes

Dr Raymond Wong
